The Effect of Tempeh on Hemoglobin Level of Rabbits (Pengaruh Pemberian Ransum Tempe terhadap Kadar Hemoglobin Kelinci)
The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of tempeh on hemoglobin level of rabbits. A number of 34 male rabbits age 8 weeks were used as animal model. Those rabbits were divided into two groups of 17. Subsequently, those groups were rondomized to be the tempeh group and soybean group. All rabbits were given a standard ration for two weeks during the adaptation period, The adapted rabbits, i.e. the tempeh and soybean groups were fed tempeh and soybean rations respectively for four weeks during the experimental period. All rabbits at the end of the experimental period were inoculated with enteroxigenic E. coli as an infection period. The hemoglobin level of the tempeh group was significantly higher than that of the soybean group after four weeks of experimental period. The hemoglobin level of the tempeh and soybean groups significantly decreased after inoculation with E. coli. But those hemoglobin in the tempeh group was still significantly higher than that in the soybean group. The serum iron level of those three periods correlated well with hemoglobin level.
