Estrogen Progesteron Treatment on Pasca Menopause Osteoporosis : Preliminary Report (Pengobatan Estrogen Progesteron pada Osteoporosis Pasca Menopause : Laporan Pendahuluan)
Objective: To evaluate the clinical changes occurring in post-menopausal, presenile and senile periods correlating with a deficiency in estrogen level, the occurrence of osteoporosis (diagnosis was established by bone CTSCAN) treated with conjugated estrogen + progesterone and calcium. Design/Data identification: Analytical clinical study Setting: (1) Menopause Polyclinic, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. (2) Gerontology Polyclinic. Department of Internal Medicine School of Medicine University of Indonesia/Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital. Subject, Patients, Participants: All the cases of patients over 50 years of age with clinical complaints of estrogen deficiency and the occurrence of chronic pain which become more acute after physical activities. Intervention: Administration of conjugated estrogen (0.625 mg) during 25 days combined with provera (10 mg) on the 21st to 25th days, and the administration of 1000 mg calcium/day. Main outcome measures: The changes of clinical complaints of estrogen deficiency and the FSH hormone level and etradiol. Results: 14 patients of post-manopausal, presenile and senile periods with a range age of 52-74 years were found, all of these cases had a very low estradiol level of 0.1-8.4 pg/ml. There was an improvement in the estrogen deficiency after the treatment and an increase in serum estrogen level. CT SCAN can be used to evaluate the level of bone measses and osteoporosis. Conclusions: The cyclical administration of estrogen-progesterone hormone was necessary both in the prevention and in the treatment, although a more number of cases is needed to determine a further management.
