Nowaday intraperitoned drain was believed to be insufficient. The surgeon, will never left peritoneal drain were indicated on localized fluid such as abcess, diffuse peritonitis, and he most frequent used was as prophylactic to avoid fluid accumulation. Animal study to evaluate the benefit showed that 24 hours later the drain was covered by omentum and of using the drain, infection was occured. This valid also in using penrose drain, pipe drain or irigation drain as well. Drain may also cause necrotic of the adjacent tissue. Prior to the usage of intraperitoneal drainage it is wise to take into occount the aim of draination, indication, efficiency of each type of drain, post-operative complication, comfortability, and the immunological status of the patient and the financial aspects.
