Erythrodermic Psoriasis in a Baby (Psoriasis Eritrodermik pada Bayi)
The etiology of psoriasis is still unknown, however immune mechanism seems to play an important role. Psoriasis is a chronic and recurrent diseases, characterized by erythematous scaly popules with overlying silvery scale. The clinical spectrum of psoriasis are plaque psoriasis, guttate psoriasis, flexural psoriasis, pustular psoriasis, erythrodemic psoriasis and seborrhoic psoriasiasis. Generally, psoriasis is rarely found in children younger than 3 years old. This case is an erythrodemic psoriasis in a 7 months old baby with onset at the age of 1 month. This is the first erythrodermic psoriasis case in children reported from Pediatric Department University of Indonesia RSCM. Initially, the case was diagnosed as ichthyosis with erythroderma caused by seborrheic dermatitis as differential diagnosis. However the histopathologic result of skin biopsy proven as psoriasis vulgaris. The treatment was topical corticosteroid (momethasone furoat 0.1 percent with protein and mineral supllement. The result of the treatment is excellent. But there is a possibility to relapse since psoriasis is a chronic and recurrent disease. The prognosis of this not so good due to the early of the diseases and erythrodermic from. Another problem is how to monitor the grorth and development, in order to achieve the optimal growth and development of the patient. Parents have to be informed conserning about the precipitating factor and the disease itself.
