The Risk Factor of Cardiovascular in Type II Diabetes Mellitus Patient with Incipien Nephropaty (Faktor Risiko Kardiovaskular pada Penderita Diabetes Mellitus Tipe II dengan Nefropati Insipien)
A descriptive analytic and observational study was conducted to determine whether type II diabetes mellitus with incipient nephropathy have significant increased risk factors for cardiovascular disease than those without nephropathy. Thirty four patients with type II diabetes mellitus (non insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) treated in the Department of Internal Medicine Dr. Sardjito General Hospital Yogyakarta, during October 1990 to May 1992 were studied. Diabetic retinopathy was found in 17 (50 percent) in the nephropathy group, and in 6 patients of the control group (p=0.011). Blood pressure was found statistically significantly different, both in systolic and diastolic pressures, 1.e. 143.38 plus/minus 17.95 vs 81.47 plus/minus 17.88 mmHg (p=0.0001), and 89.75 vs 81.47 plus/minus 11.96 mmhg (p=0.003), respectively. Total serum cholestrol and HDL-cholestrol levels in the nephropathy group were also found statistically significantly different, 1.e. 200.11 plus/minus 58.38 vs 178.17 plus/minus 53.49 mg/dl, (p=0.0554), and 35.94 plus/minus 13.65 vs 43.32 plus/minus 12.32 mg/dl (p=0.0112) respectively. The difference of total cholesterol: HDL-cholesterol ratio was statistically highly significant (6.31 plus/minus 3.08 vs 4.1 plus/minus 11.13; p=0.0017).
