The Differences of Serum Lipid Levels, Testiscular and Prostate Size among Vasectomized Men and Non Vasectomized Men (Perbedaan Lipid Serum, Prostat dan Testis Akseptor Vasektomi dan Non Vasektomi)

There are some rumor among members of the community that vasectomy is castration which can stimulate the elevation of serum lipid and fat deposit causing obesity and weaknes and reduce the daily activity. Vasectomy is also believes to induce testis atrophy and enlargement of the prostate and also impaired sexual activity several years after vasectomized. In order to answer the rumor of the side effect several years after vasectomy and also to improve the acceptance of vasectomy, National Family Planning Coordinating Board (BKKBN) and another Family Planning Centers would respond to this problem. The objective of this study is to obtain information on the differences of serum lipid levels, testicular and prostate size among vasectomized men in different time period and non vasectomy a cross sectional study had been done to compare the profile of total lipid, volume and other condition of testis and prostate on the vasectomized men and non vasectomy. Data were collected at Semarang municipality Central Java by questionnaire. Analyzed were done by Anova. Samples were devided into 4 groups : 1. non vasectomy (men will be vasectomized), II. 12-23 months post vasectomy, III. 24-35 months post vasectomy, IV. more than 36 months post vasectomy. The result showed that mean of the serum lipid level for non vasectomy or vasectomized men were in the normal range, and there were no significant differences. The increasing tendency of cholesterol and LDL level following the period of vasectomy but there were still normal limits. An elevation of trigliseride on group IV (more than 36 months post vasectomy), and low level of HDL cholesterol especially on group 1 (non vasectomized men), but still within normal limits. The right and left testis volume on group III were smaller than those of all group but were still in normal range. The prostate were normal in all group.
