Basal Cell Carcinoma at Central General Hospital Dr. Kariadi Semarang (Karsinoma Sel Basal di RSUP Dr. Kariadi Semarang)
Background: The clinical manification of BCC (Basal Cell Carcinoma) which often resembles other condition such as SCC (Squamous Cell Carcinoma), MM (Malignant Melonoma), Actinic keratosis, seborrheic keratosis, and veruca; makes difficulties in diagnosing BCC clinically. Objective : The objective of this study is to find out the relative frequency of BCC based on age, sex, topography and morphology of tumor, area of residence, comparison between clinical and histological diagnosis. Methods: The methods used in this study is cross-sectional to all 5 years recent cases that have been diagnosed as BCC in Histology Department, Medical Faculty of Diponegoro University/Dr. Kariadi Central General Hospital, Semarang. The data was analyzed discriptively. Result : In January 1992 to December 1995, there were 60 BCC cases consist of 20 male (33.35 percent) and 40 female (66.67 percent), aged between 30 to over 80 years old. The most common tumor site is on the nose, found in 13 patients (21.67 percent). As compared with people who live in the mountainous region, people who live in the seaside have a higher frequency to develop BCC, with a ratio of 4.46:1. Correlation between clinical diagnostis and histopathology was found in 45 patients (75 percent). The most common histological type of BCC is NOS (Not Otherwise Specified), found in 43 patients (71.67 percent), less common are morphea, multicentric and fibroepithelial types, developed in 6 (10 percent), 4 (6.67 percent) and 4 (6.67 percent) respectively. The least frequent type is basosquamous cell carcinoma, developed in 3 patients (9 percent). Conclusion: We find out the result are as follow: 75 percent sensitivity, 97.93 percent specificity, 78.95 percent positive value, 97.43 percent negative predictive value, 95.78 percent accuracy, and 9.38 percent prevalence. These result was not represented the real incidence BCC in Semarang. The data from other Pathology Anatomic laboratory in Semarang should be included in the study to reduce statistically bias.
