Bigonial width of Father of Cleft Children Adominat Factor that Influences the Occurence of Cleft?
Cleft lip with or without cleft palate is caused by genetic as well as environmental factors. Genetic factor plays an important role to the occurence of cleft. Some authors believe that facial measurement of parents of cleft children differ from that of parents who have no cleft children. This study is to investigate whether there are any facial measurements of cleft parents that differs from parents who have no cleft children; and which of the parents' facial mesurements that could be said as a dominant factor that influences the occurence of cleft. For this purpose, a study had been done in Timor Selatan, Nusa Tenggara Timur (Southern part of Central Timor, East Indonesia). The author used cross-sectional study in this investigation. The facial measurements had been done to parents of cleft children as samples as well as parents who have no cleft children as control group. The result of this study was that the bigonial width of the fathers of cleft children were wider than that of fathers having no cleft children. So bigonial width can be said as one of the dominant factors which need to be considered as the cause of the occurence of cleft in South Timor Tengah.
