The Biodegradation of Coloring Agent by Methanococcus Microba from Soybean Sludge (Biodegradasi Zat Warna oleh Mikroba Methanococcus dari Lumpur Aktif Limbah Industri Tahu)
Industrial manufacture generated many kinds of pollutants specially dyes pollutan. Some of those pollutans are toxic, persistent, and becoming more dangerous. Alternative treatment of waste water using microbe capable of biodegrading alizarine, o-phenanthroline, malachiet green, eosine, methyleen blue and yellow methanil had been investigated. Microbes isolated from soybean sludge were inoculated in liquid minimum medium pH 8.0 consisting of trace element, soybean milk and phosphate buffer. Using this medium the microbe was incubated with dyes compounds for 15 days. The undegradable compounds were analyzed spectrophotometrically at the wave of its maximum absorbance. The result showed that rate of biodegradation, expressed as 50, was 9 to 15 days. The aromatic hydrocarbon having OH substitution was more readily axidized anaerobically than other substitution at ortho position. Ester, Ether, and sulphonate substitution were first hydrolyzed and eventually oxidized. Halogen substitution renderedoxidation reaction.
